DC ARTS CENTER IMPROV COMEDY CLASS

Playing with Empathy and Emotionality

with Jordana Mishory

Jordana Mishory

Jordana Mishory has been performing improv for nearly 13 years. She completed the curriculums at Washington Improv Theater and World's Greatest Improv School, where she trained extensively with Will Hines and Alex Berg. She also trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York. She has spent enough money on workshops over the years to presumably purchase her own private island. (She assumes, having no idea how much private islands cost).

Jordana has spent the past decade plus teaching classes at Washington Improv Theater and coaching indie teams throughout the DMV. She performs with WIT ensembles Uncle Gorgeous and The Hypothesis and 2023 FIST champions Moonstruck 2.

Class Description

The realest thing on any stage with you in any scene is always your scene partner. This class will focus on caring about and being empathetic toward your scene partners, listening and responding to their choices through the lens of empathy, and showing that empathy through emotionality and physicality.

During this 3-week class we will play with:

  • Understanding how to be empathetic scene partners
  • Using that empathy to play, rest, and re-engage the scene
  • Displaying empathy through our face/body/voice and actions
  • Learning how to listen empathetically and comfort scene partners when needed
  • Using empathy to win audiences over to our character's side

This class will also provide a quick primer on the game of the scene.

Prerequisites

  • Completion of two or more long-form improv classes from an organization’s core curriculum.
