Workshop Description

Learn how to build a good home for your scene! This workshop is about defining and using scenes’ locations and the objects within.

Topics covered in this workshop:

  • Using scene painting as an opening and as an in-scene tool
  • Making location-based initiations right after a suggestion or edit
  • Finding, activating, and resting a game with your scene’s environment
  • Building characters and raising a scene’s stakes via its location

This workshop is helpful for improvisers who want to vary their stage pictures, practice object work, and use scenes’ locations to make improvising easier and punchier. It’s also useful for anyone who wants to learn or practice scene painting. The workshop’s concepts translate to any format.

Prerequisites

  • Completion of two or more long-form improv classes from an organization’s core curriculum.
